Idaho has a NBA D-League Basketball Team. After moving to Idaho, we started going to watch the Idaho Stampede Basketball Team. We became very involved behind the scenes by feeding these hungry young men. The D-League is an extension of the NBA. Those who are awaiting their chance at a shot to be a star.
It also is where the Refs are being trained and seasoned. But don’t fault us for the quality of the calls. In order for the Refs to get moved up, their calls are monitored after each game, against the video, and their calls are graded. They must obtain a rating of 95 percent to be advanced to the NBA.
We have had to opportunity to have past-basketball stars play for our team such as Antoine Walker, Mikie Moore, Sundiata Gaines, Kobie Karl, Anthony Tollivar (who is still playing), and the next NBA star Pierre Jackson. Pierre Jackson is currently playing the 2013-2014 season with the Stampede, and was the star of the 2014 NBA D-League All-Star game.
The ownership sold the team to the Utah Jazz in the spring of 2015. We have met some amazing young men associated with basketball through the team including players, former players, and coaches. It has been an important part of our life for the past 7 years. We will miss the hype, but the game must go on and so must our adventure. Time to find new ways to express ourselves.
I know the team will be in good hands, and you will find us still rooting for the success of the Idaho Stampede D-League team. You might even catch us on the sidelines during the televised games, since we sit next to the bench on the floor. Good Luck Team!
